If any man ever deserved to be honored for services to the arts, that man is he who now stands before you. What musician has used his music to promote Nigerian and African culture as he has done? What sculpture has used his God-given talent to adorn monuments in all parts of the country as he has done? What sexagenarian First Class degree Holder has offered himself as a University teacher to pass on his skills to the younger generation as he has done? Mr. President, I beseech you then to admin Victor Uwaifo to the Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters

THE MAKING OF A LIVING LEGEND.
In over three decades few profoundly gifted artistes have taken Nigerian music to the global podium Victor Uwaifo is one of the very distinguished. We have followed with keen interest, over the years his impressive career as a musician of international repute, businessman of note and more recently an administrative.

Ekassa King Bags M.O.N. Sir Victor Uwaifo was one of the recipients of National Honors awards in appreciation of his contribution to National building through his music along such personages like Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Anthony Enahoro, in 1983. In this picture Victor Uwaifo is seen beaming with smiles as his citation was being read. He was warmly hugged by President Shehu Shagari after receiving the award.

At the Berlin 2011 Expo, the Ghanaian Minister of Culture and Tourism overwhelmed by the Legend’s prescence could not help but admire that this icon of all ages should be Minister of Culture in the whole of Africa continent. In fact, reminiscing into the past, she reminded the Maestro of the esteem they hold of him in Ghana where he left behind an indelible mark in the sands of time with his music. She expressed joy that meeting with the icon was a dream come true.
In the same vein, the Cote de Voire Minister of Culture described Sir Victor Uwaifo as a human tourist attraction in music and culture.
Many people said that what Vicotr Uwaifo did for Africa and the world is what Mohammed Ali did for boxing in America and the world.

SERVICE TO HUMANITY:
Sir Victor Uwaifo gives when the spirit moves him to do so. He has been a silent giver who has sponsored some people to school and others in higher institutions. Roland Igbinigie (a.k.a. Akaba man), can give testimony to this in his secondary school days. Ambassador Garrick Aghabueze , an accountant of Igbenedion Education Centre, Benin City was a beneficiary in the University of Benin and has always remained grateful till date. In his own remarks, Garrick says “What Prof. Victor Uwaifo did for me has been multiplied ten folds, because I have extended the kind gesture to more than ten people not able to pay their school fees. Mr. Osayomore Joseph also benefitted from Sir Victor Uwaifo when he presented a concert standard flute to him for Alabevbo, EC Arinze (Musician and Band Leader) was Victor’s employer in the early 60s. Since 2007 Victor has put him on monthly pension for the rest of his life.
In 1968, Sonny Okosun joined Victor Uwaifo and his Melody Maestros as a rhythm guitarist and toured extensively around Nigeria and West Africa with the band. He also went on international tours with Victor Uwaifo to Algiers ’69, London and Birmingham the same year.
Early in 1970 Sonny Okosun asked Victor Uwaifo’s blessing which was granted whole-heartedly with a lavish send off party as he decided to form his own band “The Ozzidi” Tony Bestman succeeded him as the second guitarist and doubled as the assistant band leader of the Melody Maestros. Bestman went on tour with Victor Uwaifo to Japan and U.S.A. Tony Bestman later read Law and became a Jurist Doctor. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Benin. Today, Prof. Tony Bestman Ogiamien is the President of (AHU) American Heritage University, Bernardino, C.A. in the U.S.A.

Victor Uwaifo Academy of Music
Victor Uwaifo’s Academy of Music (Students 1990). The Victor Uwaifo Academy of Music was established in 1988 to groom young and talented youths. Most of the students were awarded scholarships by him to study the rudiments of Music and practical performance. In 1995, he encouraged some Band leaders in Benin City by sponsoring their trips overseas, among them are The Talents of Benin (Cole Idemudia, Fab Omo, Kojo Ochri, Fedrick Osawaru, Sabato Izekor) amongst others.
